Former Bishop of Rajasthan Diocese passes away

By Richard Devadoss

Rt Rev Collin Theodore, former Bishop of Rajasthan Diocese, Church of North India (CNI), passed away on April 15. He was 75.

As per the will of Bishop Theodore, his family members arranged for his cremation at 02:30 pm today.

Ever since his childhood Bishop Theodore cherished the vision and desire to serve the Lord through pastoral ministry in the Church.

He did his theological studies in Bishop’s College, Calcutta and was ordained in 1980. Later he joined the Brotherhood of the Ascended Christ, a religious order of the CNI as a member of which, he began his ministry as Associate Presbyter in St. James Church, Delhi.

He served in various Churches as Presbyter; as well as Youth Director of the Delhi Diocese, followed by being the Youth Director of the CNI.

He was consecrated as Bishop of the Diocese of Rajasthan in May 2001 and served as its head until 2011.

He also served as Moderator’s Episcopal Commissary to the Lucknow Diocese. After his retirement, he continued to lead the Delhi Chapter of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI).

Simple, energetic and accessible to all, his involvement in the development of the most deprived communities through the Delhi Brotherhood Society matched his commitment and passion, with that of pastoral ministry. We thank God for the life, ministry and witness of Bishop Theodore.

On behalf of the National Dalit Christian Watch (NDCW), we offer our heartfelt and deep condolences to his family and those who were close to him. We pray for his soul to rest in eternal peace.

(Dr. Richard Devadoss is the convener, National Dalit Christian Watch).
