True to his name, young Miracle’s life has been one of miracles and inspiration. His success, achieved despite insurmountable odds, has brought immense joy to his family and the entire Dalit Christian community. Although visually impaired from birth, he never lost sight of academic excellence. In 2023, Miracle secured a top-scoring mark of 93.2% in Class XII. Two years prior, in 2021, he scored 98.4% in CBSE Class X exams, making him an All-India topper in his category.
Miracle was born in Jammu in 2002 to devout Christian parents. His parents were distraught at that time when the doctors at the Children’s Hospital in Jammu told Mr. Asif Gill and Mrs. Gill that their son was born blind due to a lack of eyeballs. Their initial sadness soon transformed into a sense of hope in the Lord Jesus Christ, prompting the young parents to name their son ‘Miracle’. In naming so, the parents fervently believed that their son was a special gift from the Lord and that he was destined for greatness. Indeed, Miracle’s life story stands as a testament to that.
Raising a child like Miracle, especially him being the only differently-abled child in their entire community, the Gill family has faced multiple problems. They faced humiliation and scepticism from their community. However, Miracle’s parents, filled with the love of Lord Jesus and led by His guidance, provided him with the best like his two elder siblings.
At the age of five, Miracle was first admitted to a school for the visually impaired in Jammu, where he quickly excelled in Braille script. Recognising his intelligence, his parents were advised by one of his teachers to enrol him in the best school in India for visually impaired children – the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disability (NIEPVD) in Dehradun.
After clearing the entrance exam, Miracle was admitted to NIEPVD. His journey at the institute, which required him to live in the hostel alone for the next 12 years, began with emotional farewells from his parents. Leaving his family behind, Miracle ventured into a new chapter at NIEPVD, where he developed a deep understanding of various subjects with unwavering determination. Besides Braille, he had also taken to audio and digital learning platforms with effortless ease. To tide over emotional separation from his family, he engrossed himself in studies, excelling in each of the subjects he was enrolled into.
His diligence towards the task at hand coupled with the blessings from his parents’ daily prayers, he excelled in academics. His grades in Class X and Class XII not only brought laurels to his school and family but also to the Dalit Christian community.
After much thought and exploration, Miracle secured admission at the prestigious St. Stephen’s College in Delhi following his Class XII to pursue his undergraduate studies. He holds the honour of being the first and the only Dalit Christian from Jammu and Kashmir to become part of such a glorious institution. He is currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Arts. Young Miracle aspires to crack the Civil Services examination to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer to inspire people and to bring about a positive change in the society around him.
Besides academics, Miracle is deeply passionate about music and cricket. He is blessed with a mellifluous voice and has won several music competitions. He is also an avid cricket follower and Suresh Raina is his favourite player.
Miracle’s parents, despite their struggles, remain committed to supporting their son’s dreams. They seek the support of the Dalit Christian community in aiding his success.
